About Center Staff and Dr. Richard Barohn
Under the direction of Dr. Richard Barohn, an impressive professional
multidisciplinary team provides patients with comprehensive evaluation and
treatment plans designed to maximize their physical function and quality of
life.
The ALS Clinic is also actively involved in a clinical trial of
creatine and one regarding early use of non-invasive positive pressure
ventilation (NPPV). Dr. Barohn is a national expert in the field of ALS. Prior
to becoming the Chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of
Kansas, he developed ALS clinics in San Antonio and Dallas. He is a 15-year
member of the Western ALS Study Group (WALS).
About the Center's Services
The clinic meets twice a month on Monday mornings. Appointments may be made by
calling Carol Smith at (913) 588-0619.
This newest certified ALSA Center has many strengths: a large
state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility in which to examine and treat their
patients, an enthusiastic medical director, a dedicated professional team, and
a strong ALSA chapter (Keith Worthington) that has successfully developed a
vast support community that includes varied health care providers.
On clinic days, a member of the Chapter Patient Services staff is
always included as a valuable member of the team. This team approach provides
the highest quality of care for ALS patients and families.
