Tournament History |
|
Originally driven by George Brett, former Royals player and member of the
Baseball Hall of Fame, The ALS Association’s annual golf tournament has always
been a fun way for corporations and individuals alike to fight ALS. When the
tournament was renamed in honor of the great Joe McGuff, it continued the
tradition of an exciting event designed to entertain its guests while also
raising much-needed funds for research and patient services.
Joe McGuff lost his battle with ALS in February 2006, but his legacy has gone
on. A great community leader and a Pulitzer Prize winner, Joe was an outstanding
and well-respected sports writer for the Kansas City Star. But perhaps
most important, Joe is remembered as a caring husband, father and grandfather. |
Today, his family supports The ALS Association in his memory,
making the 2010 tournament the 8th annual Joe McGuff ALS Golf Classic.
This year, individuals and companies are invited to join Kansas City community
leaders and sports celebrities in honoring the memory of Joe McGuff while
fighting the devastating disease of ALS. This event involves an auction, lunch
and dinner and play on a beautiful course. Past tournaments have included
participation from celebrities such as George Brett, Tom Watson, Buck O’Neal,
Len Dawson, Deron Cherry and Norm Stewart – and 2010 promises even more
excitement. |
